Giving and volunteering programs

Stryker’s employees fuel our companywide passion for improving the lives of others. Whether it’s by volunteering locally or donating globally, our people are driven to give. To improve quality of life for people around the world, we advance healthcare, support education, improve environmental health and enrich community culture—while keeping equity top of mind. We also care about the unique causes that motivate our employees, and we have made it easy to give back.

Stryker’s global support

We support nonprofits that align with our social impact strategy. Our businesses and teams give back through educational outreach, humanitarian relief, and other activities that raised funds for organizations including signature partners, Operation Smile, Project C.U.R.E., the Red Cross, Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation, and Visit.org. Additionally, our teams actively engage with organizations that advance healthcare, support education, improve environmental health and enrich community culture.

Our collective impact

Impact, our global giving and volunteering platform, allows Stryker to support causes that our employees are passionate about. Stryker matches employee donations through this platform. Impact also provides employees with personalized volunteer options, including virtual, skills-based and in-person opportunities. In addition, when disaster strikes anywhere across the globe, employees can support relief efforts and get funds to the places that need it most. Eligible employees in the U.S. can request a volunteer leave of absence for one day per year to receive pay while volunteering with a qualifying organization during their normal work schedule.

Our donation matching program has enabled our people to double their support of the nonprofits they care about. In 2023, 6,900 employees participated in our company match and volunteer program on Impact, resulting in 22,500 volunteer hours and $8.2 million contributed to 3,600 nonprofits.

We offer a 1:1 employer match year-round. Throughout 2023, we maximized the impact of our employees worldwide by holding eight special match campaigns featuring 2:1 matches and a 3:1 match on Giving Tuesday. We also tie giving and volunteering opportunities to our DE&I strategies, with new opportunities highlighted year-round, including Black History Month, International Women’s Day, Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Pride Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Military Appreciation Month and National Disability Employment Appreciation Month.

Operation Smile

For nearly four decades, Operation Smile has provided critically needed surgical and comprehensive care for children with cleft and other conditions in low- and middle-income countries. Serving as Stryker’s first signature partner, we have supported these efforts through cash, in-kind donations and volunteers since 1999. Since 2015, our employee-led fundraising campaigns have raised over $1.8M, helping provide more than 7,700 free surgeries to children in need. Our partnership also helps train surgical residents in Rwanda, expand the Global Surgery Scholars program, and deliver surgical safety education for teams of healthcare workers in Madagascar.

The Operation Smile Ambassador network – comprised of passionate employees worldwide – drives awareness and support for Operation Smile, educating their local communities and raising funds. Over the years, Stryker employees have also served on Operation Smile medical experiences, supporting the medical team, patients and families.
